This program will review the most common pediatric health emergencies seen in the school setting and basic physical assessment related to those health emergencies. This course is to help school nurses be aware important elements to consider during a health emergency and be able to assess and triage ill children in the school setting. We will review basic physical assessment of the school age child in relation to body systems, and practice exam skills such as cranial nerve exam and teen health history taking.
Upon completion of this knowledge-based program, participants should be better able to:
• Identify signs and symptoms, treatment and guidance for the most common pediatric health emergencies.
• Discuss basic physical assessment of the school age child.
• Complete a cranial nerve exam and take a teen health history.
